2022, 'Bound'

This sculptural work is a personal exploration of memory, trauma, and self-expression. Created using self-cast plaster of Paris, black paper, and embedded LED lights, the piece reflects on the lasting impact of lived experience on the body and mind.

By removing parts of the body in the casting process, I symbolically represent areas of myself that have been affected or lost through personal struggle. The form becomes a fragmented record—both a presence and an absence—mirroring how internal experiences can manifest physically.

A unique visual language wraps around the sculpture, composed of symbols I developed myself. As someone who finds verbal communication difficult, creating my own written form allowed me to express deeply personal and often overwhelming thoughts in a way that feels both exposed and protected. The language is intentionally cryptic—accessible only to those who truly know me—serving as both a barrier and a bridge between my inner world and the outside.

The illuminated symbols encircle the body like a binding force, evoking how intrusive thoughts and memories can cling to and confine us. Through light, form, and abstraction, this piece becomes a quiet yet powerful act of release—transforming silence into visibility.
