2025, 'Grounded in fear'
Ceramic Sculpture 20” x 10” x 5”
Raised on a delicate pedestal, this setup allowed spectators to unintentionally project their shadows onto the artwork, emphasizing the fragility expressed through its exposed display. The absence of any records concerning the shadows amplifies the transient nature of the exhibition, preserving the closeness of the encounter. By showcasing her in a wet state, viewers can witness her transformation into solidity throughout the exhibition, stirring a feeling of being paralyzed by fear.
Through the use of both bone-dry and kiln-fired techniques, I arrived at two distinct outcomes. The first piece, characterized by a grey, earthy hue, evokes the sensation of anxiety—reflecting the desire to be engulfed by the ground, merging into an expansive and exposed setting. In contrast, the second piece, featuring a softer pink tone and resting on a blanket, conveys a more intimate sense of vulnerability.
